Overview
Visit up to 3 national parks during this 7 Days Rwanda tour where you will encounter different wildlife species such as primates like the mountain gorillas and chimpanzees, in the forested national parks of Nyungwe and Volcanoes respectively. Also, engage in the adventurous canopy walk in Africa where you get to view different primates and bird species.
While in Akagera national park, you will undertake a rewarding game drive and boat cruise and stand a chance to spot different savannah and water-loving animals like hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffalos and antelopes like the Bushbucks, reed bucks, Oribisand waterbucks, etc.
Detailed itinerary
Head to Nyungwe National park where you will encounter the different primates like the Chimpanzees, Vervet monkeys, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys among others while on chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk tours.
Nyungwe forest is one of the oldest national parks in Africa occupying an area of 970 Square kilometers and was established in 2004. This park is well famous for chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk - the oldest of its kind in East Africa.
Head to the park offices immediately after breakfast where you will engage in a briefing session that will be followed with guidance into the forest to start the search. Using demarcated forest trails, you will encounter different attractions in the forest and their finally the human cousin which are the Chimpanzees. Spend an entire hour in front of these primates and then you will trek back after 2 to 4 hours while in the forest.
After lunch, you will head back into the forest to take part in the oldest canopy walk in East Africa where you will discover different primates and bird species. The bridge rope is suspended above the trees 70m high and 160m long giving a great aerial view of the forest.
Transfer to your next destination on this day after breakfast where you will engage in gorilla trekking the next day. Volcanoes national park has 11 habituated gorilla families and you will be able to trek one gorilla family. The park covers an area of 160 square kilometers which seem small but rich in biodiversity.
There are over 178 bird species, different vegetation covers like the bamboo forests, rainforests, and montane forest among others. There are different mammal speciesincluding elusive golden monkeys, duikers, bushbucks, buffalos among others. You will check in at your booked lodge for dinner and night stay.
Have breakfast served at the restaurant of the lodge and then the driver guide will take you to where trekking starts. Take part in a briefing where you will encounter different activities like cross-checking gorilla permits, taking part in gorilla family distribution.
Thereafter, you will head into the forest to start the search. The park ranger will be trying, by all means, to take you to where the gorillas are located. On spotting the family of gorillas for the first time, you will spend an hour in their presence while enjoying and after the trek back to the lodge for leisure.
Head to Akagera national park where you will take part in a game drive experience as well as a boat cruise in this savannah national park. This is a rewarding journey where you will encounter different and beautiful sceneries.
Akagera is the only savanna national park in Rwanda located at the border of Tanzania. Akagera national park got its name from the legendary Akagera River that runs along the border of Tanzania and Rwanda, pouring its water in Lake Ihema. Arrive and take refreshments after being welcomed at the lodge.
This is the last day of your safari where you will be taking two activities and that is a game drive and boat cruise in the morning and afternoon respectively. During this day you will encounter different wildlife such as elephants, buffalos, giraffes, zebras, leopards, hyenas, lions, several antelopes like bushbucks, Topis, Oribis, water bucks, roan antelopes among others. Hippos and crocodiles while enjoying the beautiful scenery which will be followed by the drive to the lodge on the sunset.
This will be the end of your tour after being dropped at the airport with an option of taking a short city tour in Kigali. You can visit areas like local markets, the former presidential Palace, genocide memorial center among others.
