Overview
This tour will take you to the best of Nyungwe National Park where you will engage in chimpanzee tracking as the main activity and then the Canopy walk on top of Nyungwe forest trees. This destination offers unequalled spotting points for primates since it has over 13 primates.
This has made Nyungwe become one of the unique national parks in Rwanda because of hosting several primate species. You have a chance to enjoy Kigali city where you will visit the attractions like the Rwanda genocide memorial ground, Local markets, and presidential Palace museum among others.
Detailed itinerary
You will arrive at the airport and transfer to a hotel after a short city tour where you’ll be able to visit Rwanda genocide memorial grounds, presidential Palace museum, and local markets among others. There is the option of visiting these city-based attractions the following day which will depend on your arrival time.
The driver-guide will pick you from the hotel where you spend a night and take you to Nyungwe forest national park. This is known as the park that hosts 13 primates including the human cousins-chimpanzees that have 98% of blood DNA. Other primates here are the L'Hoest's monkeys, Vervet monkeys, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys among others.
This park, therefore, is known for chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk which is the only east African canopy walk. You will have en-route stopovers to enjoy true African lifestyle. Check in the accommodation for leisure in the evening.
Head to the park office where you will be welcomed by the park guide who will take you to the briefing point. You will meet other trekkers and this will offer you the best experience while attending this briefing. This briefing will cover the rules and regulations that guide you while on the trek and after, you will then be led by the guide into the forest to start the search for these primates. The overall experience can take about 3 to 4 hours depending on the location where you found them.
An hour will be allocated to you while in the presence of your fellow cousins. During the trek, meet other primates like Black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, olive baboons among others as the birds sing around the forest. You will then head to the lodge after trek for your hot lunch which will be followed by a canopy walk that will expose you to the beautiful forest with an aerial view. You will gaze over the different primates, take photos and this will end after 2 hours of experience.
Have breakfast and your driver-guide will take you to Kigali city with en-route stopovers where you will enjoy picturesque viewsand other primatesin the forest. He will later drop you at Kigali International Airport to board your flight back home.
