22 Days Discover East Africa Safari

Overview

 

Discover the beauty of East Africa through this 22 Days Discover East Africa safari (Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania. It will cover different national parks known for the big five animals, big cats, savannahs, primates, natural attractions like beautiful sceneries, among others.

 

Take part in different amazing activities like gorilla trekking, chimpanzee trekking, game drives and boat cruises, city tours, cultural community tours, nature walks among others. You will therefore get close to the rare beautiful primates like gorillas, golden monkeys, mix with the local people and learn about their culture and so much more.

 

Detailed itinerary

 

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

 

Be welcomed at the airport in Entebbe and transfer to Kibale national park in western Uganda. This will be a great and lazy drive where you will spot the beautiful landscape covered with rolling hills, forests, tea plantations among others. Kibale national park is a great conservation area and a home to over 13 primates includingthe endangered chimpanzees.

 

There are also other attractions like tree species that have spent over 100 years, bird species like the rare green breasted Pitta, and great blue turacos among others. Arrive and head to the lodge for your dinners and this will be the end of your tour.

 

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and visit Isunga Community for cultural tours

 

Have a great morning breakfast and then transfer to the Kanyanchu information centre where you will take a great adventure of chimpanzee tracking. You will attend a briefing led by game rangers or Head guidewhile cross-checking the Chimpanzee trekking permits. Your driver guide will escort you to the starting point after a short drive and after you will enter the forest with a help of the park guide together with other trekkers.

 

Start the trek as your search for their location and you will after meeting them, have a wonderful moment in their presence and this will be a great moment. After an hour while in the presence, you will head to the lodge for lunch and immediately, you will visit Isunga Community for an adventure of mixing and mingling with the Batooro and Bakiga. Take a community tour and then meet local dancers who will take you through the traditional music and dance. You have an option of joining them to learn this type of dance.

 

Day 3: Optional tea plantation and coffee experiences. Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park and take a boat cruise

 

Take an optional activity after a lazy breakfast of either tea plantations or coffee experience while using a guide from Isunga community tours. You will head to Kasese to visit Queen Elizabeth National Park to catch up with a boat cruise. The boat cruise takes place on the Kazinga channel where you will be able to spot crocodiles, hippos and different animals on the banks grazing. Have great moments even on the way as you pass through the Ndali-Kasenda crater lakes and this will be a great adventure.

 

Day 4: Game drive and transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park via Ishasha

 

Have a great morning as you take an early morning game drive in the plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park to catch up with early raisers like lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, jackals that are looking for prey. You will encounter other wildlife such as elephants, buffalos, warthogs, and antelopes like the Uganda Kobs, bushbucks, water backs and much more.

 

The game drive will take about 2 hours and then you will have lunch, proceed to Bwindi national park via Ishasha sector as you search for the rare tree-climbing lions. Find your way to Bwindi for the next great day adventure the next morning.

 

Day 5: Gorilla trekking and Batwa community visit in Bwindi Impenetrable national park

 

Engage in gorilla trekking after your breakfast and this will begin with a briefing that will enable you to get conversant with the rules and regulations, the fellow trekkers and the park guide that will take you into the forest. You will head to the forest to search and trek these gorillas which you will find on the ground relaxing, feeding, moving, breastfeeding in case they have young ones among others. Have a rewarding one hour while in their presence and you will head to the lodge which will be followed by lunch.

 

Take a community tour where you will explore the Batwa culture who will take you through the traditional dances and music. There is an option of supporting them through purchasing some souvenirs in form of crafts.

 

Day 6: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

 

Head to Volcanoes national park in Rwanda after crossing the Katuna border. The journey is amazing as you pass through the Kigali city and you will be able to witness why Rwanda is called the land of a thousand hills and this is due to the different hills that will be observed.

 

Volcanoes national park has a rich history with Dian Fossey who was a female primatologist that saved a good number of mountain gorillas from being poached. She also started the Karisoke Research Center which is between the two mountains - Karisimbi and Bisoke with the main aim of conserving and protecting mountain gorillas. You will have a refreshing moment on your arrival after a long journey.

 

Day 7: Golden monkey tracking and visit Ibyiwachu village tour

 

Engage in an adventure of trekking golden monkeys and this will be done after a short briefing which will be done first. Then the park guide will get into the forest together with fellow trekkers. Meet the golden monkeys in lower bamboo plantations as they enjoy the flash cameras. Trekking will take approximately 2 to 4 hours depending on the location of these primates.

 

You will also encounter other attractions like the birds, unique vegetation and if you are lucky, you will spot the gorillas. You will then head to the lodge for lunch and then visit the Ibyiwachu village which will entertain you with traditional Rwandan music, dance and drama, meal tasting, storytelling among others.

 

Day 8: Transfer to Lake Kivu

 

You will visit Lake Kivu on this day after a leisure breakfast. This Lake is at the border of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo and gives a great scenery view. You will take a short boat cruise that will take about 2 hours and then you will be able to encounter the beauty of this lake. Relax and take a great time at one of the resorts and this will be a great day.

 

Day 9: Transfer to Akagera national park

 

Leave Lake Kivu and head to the only savannah national park in Rwanda which is Akagera national park located near the border of Tanzania. It gets its name from Akagera River that flows on the border of Tanzania and pours its water in Lake Ihema, which is also one of the water sources for animals in this park. The journey is also amazing and you will have a great time as you keep your eyes on the windows.

 

Day 10: Game drive and Boat cruise

 

Have a morning game and afternoon boat cruise where you will encounter different wildlife and each activity will take 2 hours of adventure but of great memory. You will encounter animals like elephants, buffalos, giraffes, zebras, leopards, hyenas and lions.

 

It is home to several antelopes like bushbucks, Topis, Oribis, water-buck, hippos, crocodiles and birds like shoebill, papyrus Gonolek, African Wattled Plover, Giant Kingfisher, Senegal Lapwings and Squacco Herons among others. This will be a great day of adventuring the beautiful Akagera national park.

 

Day 11: Transfer to Kigali city and flight to Nairobi in Kenya

 

You will head to Kigali International Airport and then fly to Nairobi Kenya where you will meet the tour representative that is going to take you to through a short briefing about the tour and then head to the hotel where you will spend a night. In case time allows, you will take a visit to some of the attractions in Nairobi city.

 

Day 12: Drive from Nairobi to Amboseli National Park

 

Transfer to Amboseli National Park after breakfast and this has a great beautiful view of the snow-capped mountain of Kilimanjaro. The park is known to have the biggest number of buffalos in Africa and this will be a great adventure. You will take an afternoon game drive where you will encounter different animals such as gazelles, wildebeests, buffalos, zebras, warthogs, lions, cheetahs, different species of birds etc. Later on, you will head to the lodge booked for your accommodation.

 

Day 13: Full day in Amboseli National Park

 

Explore the beauty of this park as you engage in a full-day adventure through game drives. This will be done early in the morning and late in the evening. Explore the marshy swamps and other plains of the park, these are full of wildlife species such as Elephants, gazelles, wildebeests, buffalos, zebras, warthogs, different species of birds. You will have great views of Mount. Kilimanjaro which is the tallest mountain in Africa in the background of the park.

 

Day 14: Transfer to Lake Nakuru National Park

 

Head to lake Nakuru national park which is known to host the flamingos that turn the ground reddish pink. This park is blessed with different animals like rhinos, African wild dogs, zebra, eland, waterbuck and lion and much more. Also, the high number of lions and the rare Rothschild's giraffe has made this park to get famous. You will embark on a game drive in the afternoon hours after your lunch to witness these attractions.

 

Day 15: Transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve

 

Transfer to Masai Mara national reserve a reserve that is under the control of both the locals and the government of Kenya. This park gets its name from the local culture who are the Masai people that are found grazing their cattle in the reserve premises. This reserve is known to host the world's annual migration of wildebeests that come from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania.

 

Therefore the reserve is located at the border of Tanzania and Kenya. You will arrive and take a game drive which will be a great adventure.

 

Day 16: Full day in Masai Mara National Reserve

 

Wake up so early before sunrise and head out to the park to discover different wildlife, which range from lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, buffalos, crocodiles, Hippopotamus, jackals, cheetahs, hyenas, servals and foxes among others.

 

You will encounter bird species such as Turaco, Grey-crested Helmetshrike, Red-necked Spurfowl, Red-winged Francolin, White-headed Vulture, Temminck’s Courser among others. You will as well explore different corners of the park both wetlands / swamps and dry lands.

 

Day 17: Transfer to Serengeti National Park

 

You will cross to Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and this will be a great adventure and long day drive. The guide drive will help you to process all the required documentation and this will be at the border. Serengeti National Park is a great national park in Tanzania hosting different wildlife including the big five animals.

 

Additionally, you will get to witness one of the world's annual migrations of wildebeests that migrate in millions together with thousands of zebra, the big five animals, big cats among others.

 

Day 18: Full day in Serengeti national park

 

Take another exploration of full day game drive in Serengeti National Park to search for different wildlife species. There will be a picnic lunch in the forest, andproceed to explore the wonders of the world like beautiful sceneries, sunset and sunrise, bush breakfast, annual migration of wildebeests together with zebras. Also, spot hippos, spotted hyenas, leopards, rhinoceroses, serval cats, jackals, wild dogs, otters among others.

 

Day 19: Transfer to Lake Manyara through Ngorongoro Conservation Area

 

Leave Serengeti National Park and embark on a short journey to Ngorongoro crater areas a journey that will take about 1 to 2 hours. This is one of the amazing destinations in Africa and offers the best of wildlife viewing since animals concentrate in the water bodies of crater lakes to sip water for wildlife. There is a lot to discover while in this park and these among others include; black Rhinos, Elephants, Lions, Buffalos and Leopards and much more. Take a game drive in the evening to discover more and more.

 

Day 20: Game drive and transfer to Tarangire National Park

 

Have a morning game drive to spot more of the wildlife and after head to Tarangire national park. Its unique vegetation is dotted with baobab trees, making it one of the unique attractions that this park boasts with, in addition witha myriad chances of spotting different animals such as Elephant, Lion, Cheetah, Wildebeest, Zebra, Giraffe, Spotted hyena, Leopard among others and also birds species like Yellow-necked spurfowl, Helmeted Guineafowl and Crested Francolin among others

 

Day 21: Full day in Tarangire National Park

 

Take a full day discovering the beautiful national park, through numerous game drives. You will discover lush vegetation, birds like hoopoes, hornbills, brown parrots among others and animals like waterbuck, giraffe, dik-dik, impala, eland, Grant's gazelle, vervet monkey, banded mongoose, and olive baboon among others. This will be done in intervals and you will have a lunch break in the middle of the bush and retire to the lodge in the evening.

 

Day 22: Transfer to Arusha and fly back home

 

Have a morning breakfast and then a game drive as you find your way out to Arusha. Be dropped at the airport and this will mark the end of your 22 Days Discover East Africa safari.
