15 Days Best of Wildlife & Primates in East Africa

Overview

 

This tour will take you to 3 countries in East African that will create everlasting memories of game drives, boat cruises, primate watching through chimpanzee tracking, and gorilla trekking in Uganda. There is a lot that will be discovered including the big five animals, big cats, cultural experience of Batooro and Bakiga in Isunga Community at the edge of Kibale national park, crater lakes, Lake Bunyonyi, Ngorongoro craters among others.

 

You will also have a view of the Equator crossing in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Not forgetting the best of wildebeest migration in Serengeti national Park and Masai Mara National Reserve.

 

Detailed itinerary

 

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport and drive to a hotel

 

Area and the driver guide will welcome you and take you to acquire all the necessary equipment and documents that you might not have processed. After, he will take you to the booked hotel in Kampala where you will spend your first night.

 

Day 2: Transfer to Kibale National Park and visit the community

 

Head to Kibale national park together with your chimpanzee tracking permits. This is an amazing tropical rainforest national park covering an area of 795 square kilometers. Its reach in biodiversity including different plant species, bird species and mammals with over 13 primates with chimpanzees standing out.

 

Reach and head to Isunga Community, a tourism initiative that is aimed at enhancing visitors' experience through engagement in different activities like cultural encounters, community walks and crater lakes exploration among others. You will head to the lodge for dinner in the evening

 

Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Afternoon boat cruise

 

Head to the starting point of chimpanzee tracking starts at Kanyanchu tourist information center. The park guide will take you to the briefing room to attend the briefing and after you will head into the forest. Trekking will be done with a help of the park ranger guide who is well informed and knowledgeable about the forest and all its inhabitants. You will meet different bird species, vegetation, mammals and finally meet the chimpanzees.

 

Following the guidelines, you will take an hour in front of these primates and after head back to the office where you will meet the driver guide to take you to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The journey is amazing as you pass through the Crater Lake areas, plantations, different homesteads, beautiful landscapes among others. Arrive at the lodge and immediately take a boat cruise which will be done at Kazinga channel, spot different animals like the hippos, crocodiles and elephants.

 

Day 4: Game drive and transfer to Bwindi impenetrable National Park

 

Take an early morning game drive where you will be able to spot different animals like lions, buffalos, antelopes, warthogs, elephants, warthogs among others. You will then transfer to Bwindi national park passing via the Ishasha sector where you will be able to hunt for the rare tree-climbing lions. They offer an impressive view as they rest in the tree branches while targeting the prey. Proceed and find yourself in the Bwindi National Park where you will spend a night and be ready to take the most interesting day of gorilla trekking.

 

Day 5: Gorilla trekking

 

Take a great experience that is gorilla trekking which will involve visiting the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitats. This will begin after breakfast with a briefing followed by a walk around the forest and on finding a gorilla trekked, you will be allowed to spend an hour in their presence as you take photos and record memorable photos. You will thereafter trek out following another trail and guidance of the park ranger guide who will be fully armed for protection while in the forest in case of any attack. You need to know that, gorilla trekking normally takes place 3 to 5 hours depending on the speed and the location of these gorillas.

 

Day 6: Drive to Lake Bunyonyi and boat cruise

 

Leave Bwindi National Park and head to Lake Bunyonyi in the Southwestern Uganda Kabale District. You will take a boat cruise around this lake depending on your choice or rest at one of the resorts. Taking a boat cruise on this lake exposes you to different magical islands such as the punishment islands, Leprosy Island among others with their unique stories. The lake consists of 24 islands which will not all be discovered.

 

Day 7: Fly to Kilimanjaro International Park via Kigali city

 

You will have a short drive to Kigali Airport in Rwanda and then fly to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania where you will meet the driver guide ready and eager to welcome you. The driver-guide will take you through a briefing about the country and remaining days of the safari as he pin points the destinations that will be visited. He will then take you to the booked hotel in the city and have refreshments.

 

Day 8: Transfer to Ngorongoro area

 

You will head to the Ngorongoro crater area after a delicious breakfast at around 8 am where you will arrive after lunch and spend the rest of the day admiring the beautiful landscape of the surrounding. This conservation area is located in the northern part of Tanzania and covers an area of 8,292 square kilometers. It's a home to the big five animals that is the lion, leopards, buffalos, rhinos, and elephants and at the same time other wild animals like large herds of wildebeest, zebras among others.

 

Day 9: Full day in Ngorongoro

 

Embark on a full day game drive in the Ngorongoro crater. Black Rhinos, Masai giraffes, Defassa waterbucks, Burchell’s zebras, Common elands, Bush elephants, Hippos, Kobs, Cape buffaloes among others will be spotted during this day game drive. You will of course carry a lunch box which will be enjoyed on a picnic in middle of the wilderness.

 

Day 10: Proceed to Serengeti National Park

 

Leave Ngorongoro craters and take a drive to Serengeti National Park while passing through Ndutu plains and in this park, you will encounter different wildlife. Serengeti national parks is one of the most spectacular national parks in the world offering the best wildlife viewing including one of the wonders of the world that is wildebeest migration.

 

Other wildlife is found in this park and these are the big five animals, big cats, primates like olive baboons among others. You will be welcomed with different animals as you take a drive to your lodge.

 

Day 11: Full day in Serengeti National Park

 

Head for a full-day game drive in the vast savannah plains of Serengeti where you will encounter different animals on the sunrise such as Burchell's zebras, wildebeest, spotted hyenas, lions, leopards, kobs, Cape Buffalos, cheetahs among others. You will have the best lunch picnic in the wild and in case your safari is carried in the month of migration, you will take photos while witnessing the great migration of wildebeest together with zebras. The game drive will end in the evening after returning to the lodge.

 

Day 12: Transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve

 

Head to Masai Mara national reserve after a game drive in Serengeti National Park by crossing using road transport. Masai Mara national reserve is one of the biggest conservation areas in Kenya and it covers an area of 1,510 km2 in the rift valley province. The landscape is amazing as it is covered by rolling hills and grassy plains with Tarek and Mara Rivers. This has favored different animals in this park and these among others include; the big five animals, zebras, Masai giraffes, warthogs, crocodiles, hippos, and cheetahs. In addition, you will witness the travel of wildebeest in case it's the season of migration which is of the most world wonders.

 

Day 13-14: Whole day Masai Mara experience

 

During these two days, you will enjoy the best of Masai Mara national reserve as you take a full-day game drive experience. You will explore the Mara plains where you will be ready with a pair of binoculars and a camera while hunting for the big five animals, Masai giraffes, different antelopes, and in case it's a great season of the wildebeest migration, you get or enhance your experience as you witness the migration.

 

The spectacular landscape of the Mara plains also gives an impressive view. Other animals that will be spotted include hippos, crocodiles, zebras among others with different bird species like the lovebirds, ibis, and much more.

 

Day 15: Transfer to Nairobi and fly back home

 

You will head to Nairobi City in Kenya after your breakfast and be dropped at the airport which will mark end of your 15 Days Best of Wildlife & Primates in East Africa.
