Overview
Discover beautiful Rwanda the land of a thousand hills where you will involve in different activities like gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking, chimpanzee tracking, game drives and boat cruises, city tour, canopy walks among others.
These activities will take place in different national parks of Rwanda which include Volcanoes national park, Akagera National Park and Nyungwe National Park. In addition to that, you will visit the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo; take a community tour where you will encounter the Kinyarwanda culture.
Detailed itinerary
Be welcomed by the tour guide driver who will take you through briefing, you will embark on a drive heading to your lodge. In case you don't have travel documents, you will process them with a help of the driver-guide. There is an option of taking a city tour and this will depend on the time you arrive. In case you arrive late, you will take a short city tour on the last day of your tour. The driver-guide will take you to the booked hotel where you will spend the first night of your 14 Days Rwanda AdventureSafari.
Head to Akagera national park after your heavy delicious breakfast at the hotel in Kigali city. Akagera national park is the only savannah national in Rwanda as almost at the border of Rwanda and Tanzania. This park gets its name from the Akagera River that runs on the border from Tanzania and pours its water lake Ihema.
This park has beautiful scenery, wildlife in form of bird species, mammals, trees, amphibians among others. You will arrive in the evening and prepare to take the game drive together with a boat cruise the next day.
Take a morning game drive after a small breakfast where you will encounter different animals like elephants, buffalos, giraffes, zebras, leopards, hyenas, lions among others. There are bird species that will be spotted papyrus Gonolek, Giant Kingfisher, Senegal Lapwings, Squacco Herons, African Open bill stock, Grey Crowned Crane among others.
After the game drive, you will have a lunch break which will be followed by a boat cruise on Lake Ihema which is also located on the premises of the park. Enjoy crocodiles, hippos, and different bird species while on this boat cruise.
Leave Akagera national park and take a drive to Nyungwe National park a primate capital of Rwanda. This is one of the amazing national parks where chimpanzee tracking takes place together with East African canopy walk. There are 13 primates including chimpanzees, over 300 bird species among others, it is also the oldest rainforest national park in Africa. Amazingly, it's located in the Great Rift Valley and these areas are known to have abundant flora and fauna.
Head to the park offices after your breakfast where you will be instructed on the things you are to do and what you aren't doing while in the forest. These will guide you and this means that briefing is so crucial and important. You will enter the forest where trekking starts as you watch over the trees and other primates with different bird species.
Meet a troop of chimpanzees where you will interact with them for an hour and after the trek back to the lodge. Chimpanzee tracking is one of the most interesting activities one would not miss on his or her safari.
This is the only oldest canopy walk in East Africa and the walk will begin after breakfast, then head to the park offices for briefing. The walk normally lasts for 2 to 3 hours but you will encounter different primates and birds, have a great aerial view of the forest. The canopy is a bridge-like rope suspended above the trees of 70m High and 160m which creates impressive and everlasting moments. The primates that may be spotted are black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, olive baboons, L'Hoest's monkeys, vervet monkeys among others.
You will spend the whole day exploring Lake Kivu during these days of your safari and this can be done by relaxing at the shores of the lake. This will be done after a transfer to Lake Kivu from Nyungwe national park. It will reward you with relaxing time after you are exhausted from the safari days covered.
Head to Volcanoes national park after a leisure breakfast where you will take a great activity of gorilla trekking. Volcanoes national park is located in the Virunga ranges and it comprises 5 of 8 mountain volcanoes which are Karisimbi, Bisoke, Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura. These are volcanic mountains and they inhabit the mountain gorillas.
This is also home to the graveyard of Dian Fossey who is highly recognized and appreciated for the great work done after saving a great number of gorillas from poachers, starting gorilla habituation experience in Africa, and establishing the Karisoke Research Center.
Like any park rule, have breakfast and engage in a briefing before trekking starts. You will encounter different attractions while on the trek but keep yours on the search for mountain gorillas. Meet the gorilla family trekked and you will spend an hour with them while enjoying their presence as they move, feed, play among others. The mountain gorillas are the biggest primates on planet earth and tracking them creates the best memorable experience. You will, therefore, head to the lodge after the trek for leisure time.
Head to the park for briefing and then start a hike to visit the graveyard of Dian Fossey where you will encounter different primates and bird species. Late Dian Fossey is well known to be a female primatologist who saved different mountain gorillas since they were highly poached for bushmeat. She started up Karisoke Research center that is located between two dormant volcanoes of mountain Karisimbi and Bisoke.
You will also visit the Ibyiwachu cultural village where you get to learn about one of the African cultures of Banyarwanda. This will be through traditional dances, music, and drama, traditional meals, storytelling, visiting the traditional healer among others. This will be a great day where you will encounter the history of Dian Fossey and Rwandese culture.
Like the previous days, you will head to the park offices where you will engage in a briefing before the trek begins. You will take part in knowing the dos and don'ts to follow while in the forest and among others include; don't feed animals, don't make noise and not littering the park premises. Penetrate the forest to start the search and you will find the golden monkeys in the bamboo trees playing, feeding but you will notice that they tend to draw nearer when you use flashlight cameras.
These are interesting primate species that you will encounter on this 14 Days Rwanda adventure Safari. Trekking will last for 3 to 4 hours including an hour in presence of golden monkeys.
Take a drive to the twin lakes of Rwanda and on the arrival, you will take a boat cruise where you will be impressed with the beautiful view. They are located at the base of Mount Muhabura and near the border of Uganda and Rwanda. You can see different mountains while here such as Mount. Sabyinyo, Mount. Bisoke and Mount. Gahinga. Enjoy the beautiful scenery while relaxing the best of the twin lakes.
You will head to Kigali International Airport after your breakfast where you will be dropped and this will be the end of the tour.
