3 Days Gorillas and Golden Monkey Trekking in Rwanda

Overview

Head to volcanoes national park of Rwanda where you will be able to trek these rare primates (golden monkeys and mountain gorillas). This national park is under the world heritage sites due to inhabit the mountain gorillas.

It is home to up to 12 habituated mountain gorilla families but there are other unique features like the different bird species, waterfalls, different Virunga Mountains like Karisimbi, Sabyinyo, Muhabura, Bisoke and Gahinga. Spend a maximum of an hour in between these mountains on each trek as you visit these unique primates.

Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Be picked from Kigali city at any point and transfer to Volcanoes national park with stopovers or turn to some of the unique attractions like the former presidential palace museum, local markets like Kimironko market among others. Volcanoes National Park is a famous park known to host the rare primates that your spot during your stay.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking adventure

You will have an early breakfast and then transfer to the park offices where you will be able to trek the remaining mountain gorillas and this begins with briefing where the rules and regulations are well explained to you to make the trekking experience more enjoyable.

You will enter the forest and the trail will involve hiking since the mountain gorillas live in the mountain areas. Have an hour after sighting the gorillas but the overall experience takes about 2 to 5 hours depending where you have found the gorillas since it involves searching. You will return to the lodge for lunch and then have leisure time.

Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and return to Kigali city

Like the previous day, you will head back to the park offices where you will receive briefing about golden monkey trekking. Your will be told to use the flash light cameras since these primates enjoy them and they will tend to draw nearer as you take photos while in the forest you will have high chances of spotting the mountain gorillas since they live in the same territories.

Also, you will notice that some of the golden monkeys don’t have tails since they are cut by bamboo shoots while jumping from one tree to another.You will spend an hour in their presence and after you will trek back, have lunch and transfer to Kigali where you will be dropped at any agreed point.
