River Nile is the longest river in the whole world, with its source in Uganda at Africa's largest freshwater lake. The source of this long river was dubbed the "White Nile" and it starts its flow all the way from Lake Victoria - formerly Nalubaale. Located in the southern slopes of Uganda near the city of Jinja, the source of the Nile is an outstanding natural site with historical, educational and cultural importance.

What's so historical about the River Nile and when was it discovered?

It should be noted that the source of river Nile has attracted explorers and adventurers for the past 10 centuries. The ancient Egypt natives knew about the existence of the Nile and its relevance to their life and civilization, but they did not know where its source was and probably couldn't fathom it. It was only until the mid-19th century that the European explorers of all time such as John Hannington Speke and Richard Francis Burton traveled into the region to discover the mystery.

Speke, in his journeys, is given credit for discovering the source of the Nile at the large Lake Nalubaale - present day Victoria which he himself named after Queen Victoria of England by then.
