Game Drives in Uganda

Game viewing is the process of driving and walking through national parks with an intention of seeing different wild animals. Game drives can be done in different national parks such as Lake Mburo, Queen Elizabeth, Kidepo, and Murchison falls among others. 

Game Drives in Lake Mburo National Park. 

Game drives is one of the enthralling activities carried out in lake Mburo national park. Game drives in Lake Mburo are done in the morning, late afternoons and at night for one to spot different nocturnal animal species. The night game drive enables one to spot animals such as leopards, bush babies, impalas, zebras among others. During the morning and the late afternoon game drives you are able to spot giraffes that have recently been introduced in the park.

Game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Queen Elizabeth national park offers one of the best game viewing safaris in Uganda. This is the second biggest national park in Uganda covering an area of 1978 square kilometers occupying four districts which are Rubirizi, Rukungiri, Kamwenge and Kasese. 

Queen Elizabeth national park is home to different bird and animal species which are seen during the game drive. The best spots to do game drives are the Kasenyi plains, Ishasha sector and the Mweya peninsula. They are done in the morning, evening and night hours. 

Game drives done in the morning are the best because during this time, animals are more active and have come out from their resting areas into the wild to hunt for food. During this time, Uganda Kobs, hippos, bushbucks, buffaloes, elephants, lions among other animals can be seen, not forgetting the beautiful bird species. 

During the night game drives, you are able to see nocturnal animals. The nocturnal animals are ones that are active during the night hours and it is only done at the Mweya peninsula in Queen Elizabeth national park. Some of the animals spotted include lions, Serval cats, jackals, hippos, leopards among others.  Some animals can be spotted resting while others can be found hunting for food. 

Game drives in Murchison falls national park

A home to over 556 bird species and 144 different mammals, Murchison falls national park is a top notch destination for game drives. This is the best way to explore and see different animals in the wild.  Murchison falls is located in the north western part of Uganda occupying an area of 3,893 square kilometers. 

During the game drives, you are able to spot four of the big five cats of Africa that are the lions, elephants, leopards and buffaloes. The rhinos are only found at the Ziwa rhino sanctuary neighboring the park.

The northern banks of the park offer the best game drives because this is where you find various animals. Some of the animals spotted here are the buffaloes, baboons, warthogs among others. 

Game drives in Kidepo national park

Kidepo national park is one of the national parks that offers excellent game viewing safaris. You are able to see animals in true wilderness and open savannah. The park is isolated but known to be spacious and offering one of the best game drives. 

Game drives are done in the Narus and Kidepo valley. The Narus valley offers the best game views because it is located in the open savannah with lots of grasslands. Various animals come to this place during the dry season to drink water and graze on the grass. Some of the animals spotted in this area are cheetahs, lions, hyenas, leopards among others. 

The Kidepo valley section is another section to enjoy game drives in Kidepo national park. This place has few animal species compared to the Narus valley sector. Regardless of all this, this place is filled with rare species which are enjoyed by the tourists. 

Some of the rare species are nocturnal leopards, elands, ostriches, wolf eared bats, orbis, Jackson’s hartebeests, water bucks, giraffes among others.
