These great 10 days Uganda safari will take you to the most beautiful national parks where you will engage in trekking the big primates - the mountain gorillas and chimpanzees, take a boat cruise and game drives in the savannah national parks, visit lake Bunyonyi which is the second deepest lake in Africa after Lake Tanganyika, visit cultural centres like Isunga community tours where you will engage in Tooro cultural dances.
Also visit the Batwa villages for rich cultural experiences on the outskirts of Bwindi national park and an enroute visit at Igongo cultural centre in Mbarara city. During the long journeys and drives, you will enjoy different landscapes such as the tea plantations, equator monument, etc.
Detailed itinerary
Be picked from the agreed point in Kampala or Entebbe and immediately take a 5 to 6 hours’ drive with different stopovers - the roadside markets where you have a chance to purchase some fresh fruits like mangos, pineapples, jackfruits among others.
Murchison falls national park is the largest national park in the country and is divided into two parts by Albert Nile - the northern part made of savannah and the southern regioncomposed of woodland forest.
On this day, you have an option of taking either a ballooning safari or game drive where you will engage in spotting different wildlife such as elephants, giraffes, warthogs, buffaloes, and antelopes like waterbucks, Jackson's hartebeests, bushbucks and Oribis. They both take 2 hours of adventure and then embark on the boat cruise that takes place on the Albert Nile where you will spot different animals like the Nile crocodile and hippos. The day will end as you take an optional hike to the top of the falls.
Have breakfast and leave Murchison falls national park for Kibale national park, another amazing primate area that hosts 13 primates including the endangered chimpanzees. Enjoy the landscape covered with tea plantations while in Fort portal, Crater Lakes,undulating hills and forests.
Arrive for lunch in Fort portal tourism city which will be followed by visiting the Isunga community where a local guide will take you to visit different craters like Lake Nyabikere, Nyinabulitwa and Nkuruba. You have an option of taking tea plantations and coffee tour experience. Check in the lodge for your dinner.
Head to Kanyanchu visitors’ center where chimpanzee tracking starts with a briefing that outlines different guidelines that should be followed while in the forest, the history of Kibale forest and trekking experience among others. You will then be led by a park ranger together with another trekker who will take you through the forest and start searching for these beautiful human cousins.
You will meet a troop which you will be with for an hour and then transfer back to the lodge for lunch. In the forest, you will meet other attractions like lush vegetation, other primates like vervet monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabeys. Different bird species might also be spotted like the great blue turacos.
After lunch, take a tour to the Isunga community where you will be entertained by Tooro cultural dances, ceremonies like the Empaako naming ceremony among others and this will be with the guidance of Isunga cultural community tours.
Take a great road trip rewarded by numerous crater lakes, banana plantations, cotton gardens among others as you head to Queen Elizabeth National park which is one of the most interesting national parks in the country.
You will be welcomedby different animals like elephants, buffaloes and antelopes. You will arrive and take a boat cruise along the Kazinga channel that will take 2 hours while exploring the beautiful landscapes, hippos, crocodiles and different bird species. You will check-in at your lodge for a night.
Have a morning game drive in Kasenyi plains or Mweya peninsular where you will be able to catch up with early raisers like the lions, leopards, hyenas, jackals among others, and the common sightings like elephants, buffalos, different antelopes - Uganda kobs, waterbucks, warthogs and many more.
After the game drive, you will transfer to Bwindi national park in south-western Uganda and pass through the Ishasha sector to spot the rare tree-climbing lions. These are elusive in nature andprefer to lay lazily on tree branches after feeding and as they target on which prey to pounce on. Arrive and head to the lodge where you will be staying in Bwindi national park.
This great day of gorilla trekking adventure will begin with breakfast at the lodge and then the driver guide will take you to the park offices where briefing takes place. The park ranger / guide will take you through the dos and don’ts while trekking and all the required information you need to know while on the trek. Embark on the search for a habituated gorilla family and then you will meet other attractions like the vervet monkeys, colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys and other residents.
You will finally meet a gorilla family; spend an hour with them which will create memorable experiences. In the afternoon, you will embark on the Batwa community experience where you will be entertained with the cultural dances, storytelling, craft work, and so much more.
Head to Lake Mburo National Park where you will take a game drive and boat cruise the next day. You will pass via Lake Bunyonyi enroute which is the second deepest lake in Africa after Lake Tanganyika. Have a boat cruise on this lake where you will enjoy the beautiful surrounding areas of terraced land, different islands like the leprosy island, Punishment Island among others.
Thereafter, transfer to Lake Mburo national park with a stopover in Mbarara town to visit the Igongo cultural museum and find your way to the overnight lodge.
Take a game drive in the savannah areas of this park after your breakfast where you will spot different animals that live in this park and among others include zebras, impalas, warthogs, hyenas, jackals, bushbucks among others. The game drive lasts for 2 hours and not forgettingcommon birds to look out for including; grey crowned crane, brown parrot, red-headed lovebirds, green wood-hoopoe, bare-faced go-away bird among others.
Embark on a boat cruise along one of the largest lakes in the park where you will spot animals like hippos, crocodiles and different birds like the fish eagle, Egyptian goose, African fin foot, hammerkops and white backed heron, etc. The experience takes a maximum of 2 hours and you will transfer back to the lodge.
Have a great morning breakfast which will be followed by a check out at the lodge where you spend a night and then transfer to Kampala or Entebbe. Have a stopover at the equator, spend a good time as you take photos, purchase some souvenirs and have lunch from this point.
Later be dropped at Entebbe airport or any agreed point and this will mark the end of your 10 days Uganda safari.
