Detailed safari itinerary
Welcome to Rwanda where the driver will meet you and makes a quick briefing. You will then have a short city tour depending on the time you arrive at familiar with Kigali city where you will visit places like the genocide memorial ground of Rwanda, the local markets like Kabeza or Kimironko where you will have a look at the freshly grown crops and fruits.
Then head to the hotel booked for a night after discovering some of the city-based attractions in the land of a thousand hills.
Have another short break city tour where you can visit the Richard Kandt museum, Inema Art Centre, Nyamata Church and then proceed after breakfast to Kahuzi Biega National Park in Bukavu town. This amazing national park has one of the unique subspecies of gorillas which are the Eastern low land gorillas which is the world's largest gorilla species.
This park was named after the two dormant volcanoes- Mt. Kahuzi and Mt. Biega where the park premises are located. There is a lot to discover in this park such as 136 mammal species, over 345 bird species, and over 178 plant species among others. Arrive and head to the lodge where you will spend a night.
Wake up and head to the restaurant of the lodge where you will be served breakfast and this will be followed by the drive to the park offices of Kahuzi-Biega national park for briefing. This is so important since trekking also starts at this point, after receding the dos and don'ts while trekking. You will then enter the forest with the guidance of the park ranger guide, he will take you to the spot of the low land gorillas. Spend an hour in front of them and then trek back to the office to meet your driver-guide to take you back to the lodge.
Transfer to Virunga national park via Goma boarder where you will spend a night. This park is known to host the rare mountain gorillas and also has 2 of the active mountain volcanoes in Africa – Mount. Nyamuragira and Mount. Nyiragongo but for this safari, you have only one chance to explore Nyiragongo.
This mountain offers the best scenery of the boiling lava lake on top of avolcano, standing at about 3,680m sea level. Arrive and straight away head to your accommodation booked.
Head to the park offices for briefing after breakfast, at this point, acquire some basic required materials such hiking sticks, foodstuffs, cooks, and porters. Then, you will sign in and thereafter start the hike which will take between 4-5 hours depending on other speeds. While on the hike, enjoy the beautiful views of the landscapes as you pass through the dense rainforests full of primates, birds and great vegetation cover.
On reaching the summit, you will enjoy the beautiful landscape and rest and at night, the boiling lava will be observed. A night will be spent here and while having a great view.
Enjoy breakfast at the summit as you get a view of the boiling lava and after start descending to the base of the mountain. Therefore, by around 11:00am, you will be at the base signing out and then the driver guide will take you to Lake Kivu in western Rwanda after crossing the Goma border. On arrival, you will relax at the beach and this will be the end of the day.
Have your breakfast at the resort on Lake Kivu, take a short boat cruise around the lake and then transfer to Kigali city. Depending onyour scheduled flight, you will head to the airport and this will be the end of your 7 days D.R. Congo tour.
